Flower Cookies

Since Easter is this weekend, I wanted to share this easy recipe with y'all! These cookies are so cute and really easy to make!

Start off with your favorite sugar cookie dough

Roll the dough into spheres

Sprinkle the cookie dough with pretty colored sprinkles

Put the sprinkled dough on a cookie sheet and cut the ball in half, then each half into 3 sections
(I tried 4, but the ones that had 3 sections ended up being a lot cuter!)

Put them in the oven to bake and then they're ready to serve!

A Weekend Worth Waiting For!

I'd been waiting for this weekend for what felt like forever. How can 3 days possibly go by so fast?! I blinked and it was Monday morning. I'm so sad that it's already over but we had so much fun just being together! And the fact that I get to see him again in just a few short weeks made our goodbye a little easier...I can thank the Mountain West Baseball Conference for that one! I'm loving baseball season because Bubs gets to come to California to play games twice in the next 2 months!

I flew into Denver on Friday afternoon. It's about an hour and a half drive to the Academy from DIA, a little less if you have a lead foot hehe. Steven had a baseball game that started before I landed, so his friends drove up to Denver for me! I missed most of the game (not to say I'm bummed about that because it was oh, 30 degrees and Steven wasn't even playing that day...I'll pass on that, thank you very much) so I barely had to wait to hug on my man!

The first kiss and hug after we've been apart is always the best. It makes me feel like I'm back where I belong, as if we've never been apart in the first place. But it always gives me butterflies in my stomach too, like it's the first time we've ever kissed. It's one part of the whole long distance thing that I enjoy because I get to have that perfect kiss over and over again! It still hasn't lost any of its feeling, and I don't think it ever will.

The rest of the weekend was supposed to consist of watching more baseball in the snow, but we lucked out! On Saturday and Sunday, there was a crazy blizzard so the games got cancelled, which also meant more time for us to be together! I was bummed that I didn't get to see S play, but then quickly got over that when I remembered I get to see him play here in the California sunshine! Bubs had to practice for a little while so I hung around and read. After he practiced, we grabbed some lunch at a cozy cabin restaurant, the perfect place to eat with the crazy weather outside. We caught an early movie and then we ran some errands to pick up a few things that Bubs needed for his room. That night after dinner, we relaxed and went in the jacuzzi.

Sunday after Steven's practice, we had a yummy lunch and then went to the outlets in Castle Rock. Wind and snow was probably not the best weather for an outdoor mall, but we had a great time! That night we cuddled up, talked, and watched a movie in the hotel. I love just lounging around with that guy. He makes me laugh so much and it's so nice to get to do the little things, like watching TV together, that we don't normally get to do! It makes me appreciate every second I get to spend with him!

Here's a little recap of the weekend!!

The baseball stadium at USAFA! Not the best playing weather!

Love this guy!

Escaping the blizzard!

We asked this cute lady to take our picture on my iPhone. The picture above was the first picture that she took...She flipped the camera around and snapped a picture of herself! S and I were cry-laughing when we saw the picture of her later! So funny hehe

This is the second...a little better

Finally a good one!

It was a perfect weekend and I'm so thankful I got to see my man! You can bet that I already have my next countdown in full swing!

Sunday Fun

I'm hoping that everyone is having a fabulous weekend! I'm here in Colorado with my man soaking up the... snow...It's freezing! California girls aren't used to this kind of weather, but we are having so much fun and I can't wait to share with y'all later this week! Enjoy your Sunday!

A Little L o v i n' For Your Week

I thought I'd share with y'all the sweetest, most adorable wedding video I've ever seen. Melts my heart every time I watch it! I found it on Pinterest and my cute friend Shea shared it a couple of weeks ago on her blog! Don't be afraid of the crazy music in the beginning because I can guarantee you'll be tearing up because of how darling they are by the end!

Let me know what you think!

This Week Will Be Crazy

Friday, I get to see the main man...the only thing that's standing in my way is 4 more finals. I'm having a major aversion to school this week because of that. Usually when I have 4 days to go to see him I'm a happy camper but these tests are throwing off my groove, ya know?

The days leading up to seeing Bubs are usually so fun. I'm an obsessive list maker so I get overly excited when I can make a list of what I'm going to pack and the things I have to get done before I leave. Currently the list consists of studying and taking tests...no fun at all.

CAN IT BE FRIDAY ALREADY?!

Because I'm really ready for one of these hugs!
Someday I'll post about the first time I saw him after basic training...maybe a week I'm not running around like a chicken with it's head cut off

That One Time I COMPLETELY Embarrassed Myself

I'm trying to get an internship at Orange Coast Magazine for this summer. I'm dying to get my feet wet in the magazine industry! So, a guy at my dad's work gave me the contact information for the woman I should talk to!

I decided to call on Monday and I was beyond excited. I didn't want to mess anything up, so I wrote down some notes with the points I should touch on. I had my laptop with her name and info as well as the guy who gave me her reference. When I called, the receptionist on the phone told me I should try a different number. She gave me the direct line of Lisa Smith* the lady I needed to talk to and said that I should call back the next day.

Tuesday rolled around and I was on my way to class. I had my notes in hand and I was ready to go...or so I thought. This is how the conversation went:

She answers: Hello?
Me: Hi, this is Haley Kulik. I was hoping to talk to.......uh.......
Her: Who are you looking for? If you're looking for Lisa Smith*, that's me.
Me:...I'm so sorry. I'm going to have to call you back.
*Click. Cue dial tone*

Excellent conversation wouldn't you say? I definitely hit those marks I prepared for. Not only did I forget her name, but even when she said it I still couldn't remember if that was it or not!! Great first impression, right?! I was so embarrassed it's not even funny (okay, I admit it was kinda funny). The day before, I had my laptop which held the key to life apparently...or just her name. I figured that the notes I had would at least have her name written down somewhere but of course it didn't. I seriously thought that I blew all chances with her.

On Wednesday, I finally mustered up enough nerve to call her back and explain. When I talked to her, I was soooo embarrassed but I apologized and I think that she actually thought it was humorous. She asked me to send over some of my articles so she could look over them. She said she'd give me a call back soon! So fingers crossed everyone!!
*Name changed

Sooo happy it's Friday! I hope everyone has a great weekend!!

The Best Brownies You've Ever Had

When I splurge and have dessert, anything chocolate is my go-to. So, when I tried this insanely easy and absolutely delicious homemade brownie recipe, I was super excited. I thought I'd share it for all the chocolate lovers!

Ingredients
1 cup of melted butter
3 cups of sugar
1 tablespoon of vanilla extract
1.5 cups of flour
4 eggs
1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1 teaspoon salt

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350 and lightly grease a 9x9 pan.
  2. Combine sugar, melted butter, and vanilla in a bowl and then beat in the eggs.
  3. Mix flour, cocoa powder and salt in a bowl. Gradually stir in the dry mixture until blended. If you want a little somethin' more, you can also add chocolate chips or nuts.
  4. Bake for 35-40 minutes

And that's it folks. The best brownie that'll ever touch your lips. If you're going to eat dessert, might as well go big or go home, right??

Recognition...F I N A L L Y

This weekend was a huge weekend for my man! He was finally recognized into the Cadet Wing at the US Air Force Academy! For the past 9 months he has been working towards this weekend and I'm so proud of him for getting to this point.

Recognition at the Academy is like a rite of passage, which is marked with the infamous prop and wings. The cadets go through rigorous mental and physical training in order to be recognized. It's a huge accomplishment!
This is what the prop and wings looks like for y'all who might have no idea what I'm talking about!
Once recognized, the cadets get privileges that they haven't had since they've been there. Steven is most excited about being able to change out of his uniform after classes instead of 11 at night and not having to wear his uniform off base (if it was acceptable, that guy would never wear a shirt...anywhere). He's also happy that he doesn't have to wake up at the crack of dawn to call out the minutes until breakfast! He can now wear his backpack on his back instead of carrying it in his left hand, walk instead of running in only straight lines and sharp turns, eat in any fashion he wants, close the door to his room at anytime, and greet upperclassmen by their first name instead of their full title. Sweet, sweet freedom right?!

The first year at the Academy is undoubtably the hardest. Bubs never ceases to amaze me with how hardworking and determined he is. I hope he's as proud of himself as I am of him. Love this man with all my heart!!

Bubs got recognized with his baseball team

With the team after it was over! How cute are they?!

Where I Want to Be

I have a huge paper due on Monday. Ugh. That's all I have to say about that. And honestly, I could think of a million other places I'd rather be this weekend than sitting at my desk writing it!!

I'd rather be in laying out Cabo...

I'd rather be skiing in Park City, Utah...

I'd rather be in North Carolina, watching Bubs play baseball...

I'd rather be eating macarons in the Versailles gardens...

I'd rather be hiking in Yellowstone...

I'm going stir crazy up in here! Spring break come faster!! Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Spring Fever: Makeup Essentials

Since spring is right around the corner, I thought that I'd share some of my most favorite spring makeup products with y'all!

Here's a little secret: As much as I hate to admit it, I am always running late. I like to take my time waking up in the morning but I also like to look pretty for the day...quite the dilemma, I know.
I'm one of those people who runs around shoving things in my bag, applying mascara, and putting on my shoes all while brushing my teeth. Needless to say, I am a huge fan of keeping my makeup simple!

I also love the natural looks of spring! It's so fresh and sweet! Here are a few of my favorite products that'll give your gorgeous face a natural, radiant glow!

1. Benefit's Watt's Up Highlighter: Love this! I can put it on in less than 20 seconds. You can use it as a highlighter anywhere, but I usually smear it over my eyelids and put some around the corners of my eyes! It provides a gorgeous, soft glow, that'll make your eyes pop! In the daytime, I just leave it at that, but for a nighttime look, I apply eyeshadow on top!

2. Covergirl's loose powder: One of my favorites. It's so light and blends into your skin really well, making for a lovely au naturel look!
| find: here |

3. Clinique's Chubby Stick: My best friend got me hooked on these, and now I'm obsessed! They come in such fun spring colors and they moisturize your lips too!
| find: here |

4. BareEssential's Buxom Mascara: If I had to choose only one thing to wear everyday, this would be it. It only takes a few strokes to get the perfect lashes and there are never clumps!
| find: here |

5. Aveeno Daily Moisturizer: I love this because it doesn't make your face feel greasy at all and it has spf 30 in it! Gotta protect the skin!
| find: here

6. Benefit's Dandelion Blush: This blush is sweet and girly and adds just the right amount of color to your cheeks! Perfect for spring!

I love me some baseball...

Happy Best Day of the Week! Friday is my favorite day because of the anticipation leading up to the weekend. You wake up in the morning and tell yourself that there are only a few torturous hours left until sweet freedom...or am I the only one who does that?

Sorry about the rest of this post but I have to brag for just a second...

Steven is a starting pitcher for the Air Force Academy. He's in Florida this weekend, but last weekend, Bubs played Navy in North Carolina. And he killed it to put it simply. He pitched 7 innings with 3 hits, 7 strike outs, and no runs. For those of ya who don't know baseball, that's pretty awesome. I'm so proud of him! I really wish that I could have been there, but I'm excited to watch him play when I go to Colorado later this month!! (You read that right, this month...I can say that now because it's officially March!) I could brag about this stud for hours.

I like baseball because I can actually understand the strategy of the game, not just the rules. But I love the sport because of those uniforms. I mean, how hunky is a man in a baseball uniform? Baseball hats with tight pants and the legs rolled up...holy hotness, I die.

Saluting in uniform ain't bad either.
Oh, here's a fun little side note! Steven's team gets to take the Air Force's huge cargo planes to all of their games. This concept was crazy to me at first but it's pretty sweet, huh?! This week the plane they took refueled a bomber...in the air. It made me a little nervous not gonna lie!
